4 Things to Do in Houston if You Love ArtOne of the many reasons Houston is one of the best cities in the nation is its rich and cultures art hubs. Here you’ll find a great selection of museums and galleries that show artworks of every style. Below are a few of our favorite places to visit in Houston to see great art.

Museum of Fine Arts Houston

If you love art, this is the ultimate destination. The Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH) is a huge complex dedicated to artistic pursuits. You’ll find aesthetic wonders like the two gallery buildings, two house museums, and a sculpture garden at this museum. To say it’s a massive display of artistry is an understatement.

MFAH has an ever-revolving series of exhibits and displays that make each visit a new one. Their permanent collections feature artists from a wide range of nations, eras, styles, and mediums. Pair your visit to the museum with one of the films they feature in their theater throughout every month. Stop by the cafe during your visit for a cup of coffee and fuel to continue through the museum. It’s easy to spend the entire day at the MFAH.

Contemporary Arts Museum Houston

For a unique look at the modern art world, visit the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH). Since 1948, CAMH has been showcasing the most dynamic and contemporary pieces from emerging and more well-known artists.

There are thought-provoking exhibits and events around every corner of the museum, and visitors of all ages will find something they enjoy within its walls. Attend a talk, lecture, or reading. Experience performances, films, and musical acts. Experiment with art at one of their workshops and open studio sessions. Or, simply drop in for a visit to the great art exhibitions the museum houses.

Blaffer Art Museum

At the University of Houston, you’ll find the Blaffer Art Museum. This is a contemporary art museum that showcases great pieces from both university students and outside artists. There are many major exhibits held at the museum throughout the year, so time your visit accordingly to get a unique view into the modern art of today and tomorrow.

The Menil Collection

Does over 30 acres of art sound like a great place to be? Head to the Menil Collection, where you’ll find the main building full of pieces from the museum’s permanent collection and special exhibitions. Around this building, two others hold work from Cy Twombly and Dan Flavin. On the premises, you’ll also find the Byzantine Fresco Chapel and a drawing school.

This museum bears a minimalist, raw nature that lets visitors create their own experiences. The art pieces are displayed without explanation so the viewer can experience them freely. Each exhibit of well-known and more obscure pieces is curated to display the absolute best of modern art.

Feed your imagination every day for a rich and healthy life and mind. Is there somewhere else you like to see art in Houston? Let us know! We’re always looking for new and thoughtful pieces.
