Off Road Trails near Houston, TXWhen you are looking for some exciting outdoor adventure, you cannot beat the good times you will find when you head off-road. On the next warm day in Houston, plan to check out all the fun offered at one of these nearby off-road trails. If one of these trails is a bit too far of a hike, come check out one of our new Hondas to help get you there.

Creekside Offroad Ranch

If you travel approximately 35 minutes northeast of Houston to Splendora, you will find Creekside Offroad Ranch. With 350 acres and miles of challenging trails that include mud, water, sand, and hills, this is one of the best off-road sites in the state. If you want to make it a weekend of adventure, the ranch also offers a campground with full RV hookups. The ranch is open to trucks, ATVs, UTVs, dirt bikes, and any other vehicle that can handle the dirt. You can also enjoy several special events throughout the year, such as the Mardi Gras Muddfest.

Sam Houston National Forest

About an hour north of Houston, another great spot for off-roading is the Sam Houston National Forest. The park has multiple-use trails open to off-road vehicles and horseback riding. The trails offer a variety of riding conditions, including dirt, mud, sand, and several creek crossings. Although open year-round, the trails are closed after inclement weather in order to protect soil and reduce erosion.

General Sam’s Offroad Park

Located slightly over an hour north of Houston is General Sam’s Offroad Park. Here you will find 705 acres of pine forests, six creeks, and over 60 miles of trails that are open to jeeps, trucks, ATVs, and other off-road vehicles. If you want to challenge your friends or family to a little tournament, check out the General Sam’s Competition Area for an ATV course that includes sand drags, mud drags, and a large mud bog. If your day runs late, you can spend the night at one of the 13 deluxe campsites.

Mudbuddys Park

Travel two hours southwest of Houston to Hallettsville for off-road trails at Mudbuddys. This recreational park has 200 acres of shady and well-maintained trails with deep mud pits and creek crossings. The park is situated along the Lavaca River, so cool off with a swim and swing on a rope into the wet yonder. If you want to spend the night, the park offers a campground with the capability of accommodating tents, RV with hookups, trailers, and cabins. Other special events held at the park include Muddy Gras and Red Neck Rave.

Xtreme Off-Road Park and Beach

Xtreme Off-Road Park and Beach is less than 30 minutes northeast of Houston in Crosby. It offers several acres of wooded trails, deep mud bogs, and hill climbs. Since the park is situated around several small lakes, it also makes the ideal place for swimming and fishing. Primitive camping is available in the park, but since you do not have access to any hookups, you will want to make sure you bring your own supplies.
