What Is Honda Sensing Technology? In a time when safety expectations are high, Honda has exceeded them with the advanced safety features of Honda Sensing. Check out a few of the most impressive technologies included in Honda’s safety package.

Collision Mitigation Braking System

The collision mitigation braking system uses exterior radars to identify nearby objects. If the camera notices that you are too close to the vehicle or object in front of you, it first warns you with a visual and audible warning. If no action is taken, the feature then tugs at the seat belt and begins to apply light pressure to the brakes. If no action is still taken and a collision is likely, then the feature tightens the seat belts and applies the brakes, bringing you to a stop.

Road Departure Mitigation System

Unintentionally swerving into nearby lanes can be dangerous for both drivers involved. The road departure mitigation system works to eliminate these departures by displaying a visual warning on your vehicle’s dashboard. It uses a windshield camera to identify road and lane barriers and then alerts you if you swerve out of yours. The feature will also vibrate the steering wheel. If no action is taken, then the feature will step in with steering power to put you safely back in your lane. The feature also has the ability to identify the difference between intentional and unintentional lane changes.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Cruise control is not a new feature and you will find it in many newer vehicles. Honda takes this feature to the next level by not only allowing you to set your preferred speed, but also allowing you to mimic the vehicle’s speed in front of you. The feature will continually monitor and adjust your speed based on their actions. This feature can be especially useful in busy traffic when the vehicle in front of you might hit the gas and brakes continually.

Lane Keeping Assist System

The lane keeping assist system works nicely with the road departure mitigation system. This feature aims to keep you in the center of your lane. Using the same cameras, if the feature identifies that you are leaving your lane without signaling, then it will step in and adjust the steering wheel, keeping you safely in your lane.

Traffic Sign Recognition

Honda technologies also have the ability to recognize traffic signs. It can be overwhelming to identify street signs when navigating a new area or sitting in busy traffic. Using exterior cameras, this feature will identify the signs and then offer that information to you on your display. The feature has the ability to recognize speed limit, children in the area, and turn ahead signs. This can help you adjust your speed or move to a lane that helps you reach your destination.

Honda aims for a collision-free road and the Honda Sensing safety technologies are the first step towards that goal. The Honda Sensing safety features come standard in many newer Hondas.
