2018 Honda Accord in Houston, TXThe Accord has long been a mainstay of the Honda lineup, and the 2018 model promises to wow both new Honda fans and loyal customers. With new technology and a bevy of exciting features, the 2018 Accord has the auto world buzzing. Information has been slow to release, but Honda has finally confirmed many of the rumors we were most excited about. We’ve created this mini guide of pertinent information about the 2018 Accord to get you excited about the upcoming release.

New Engine

Honda has designed a new engine for the 2018 Accord. The 3.6-liter V6 will no longer be an option for the new Accord lineup, but engineers have made up for this departure with a new pair of direct-injected, turbocharged inline-four-cylinder engines, which displace 1.5 and 2.0 liters. The 2.0-liter version is the replacement for the V6 and is expected to put out the same power with improved gas mileage.

The 1.5-liter is the standard option and gets a respectable 192 horsepower with 192 pound-feet of torque, which makes for a smooth yet powerful ride and solid pick up. The 2.0-liter is predictably beefier, with 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, a solid replacement for the V6.

Standard Sensing

The lauded Honda Sensing system is now standard on all Accord models. This system helps drivers remain aware of conditions on the road, keeping both drivers and passengers safer. These active safety features include a Collision Mitigation Braking System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Sign Recognition, Road Departure Mitigation System, and Lane Keeping Assist System. Previously optional, by making the Honda Sensing system standard, Honda is increasing the value of the 2018 Accord with little increase to price point.

Body Redesign

The Accord body has been redesigned from the ground up to create a lighter, safer body. The body is crafted from 29 percent more ultra-high-strength steel and 54 percent more high-strength steel than previous models, which Honda says has trimmed more than 100 pounds from the overall weight.

In addition, the rigidity of the frame has also been improved, and when combined with the new reduced weight, that leads to an improvement in driveability and a quieter cabin. The Accord now also has a longer wheel base for more leg room, plus an enlarged trunk.

Updated Transmission

The 2018 Honda boasts the first 10-speed automatic transmission to be included in a front-drive vehicle. This transmission is available in the 2.0-liter version, which, like the 1.5-liter model, also has the option for a six-speed manual model for a sport-oriented driving experience.

The new transmission is similar to the one in the Odyssey but has been specifically calibrated for the demands of the 2018 Accord. It’s also 22 pounds lighter than the previous transmission and capable of 68 percent wider overall range.

These are just a few reasons to get excited about the 2018 Accord. More information will be forthcoming from Honda, and the Accord is anticipated to be released in the fall of 2017.
