Ranked the third-best compact car by U.S. News & World Report, the 2018 Honda Civic starts at $18,940. You can choose between the sedan, coupe, and hatchback styles, all of which offer superb safety scores, a spacious interior, and stellar fuel economy. The sedan comes in five main trim levels: LX, EX, EX-T, EX-L, and Touring. Keep reading to learn more about the sedan and why you should consider this for your next vehicle.

Safety Features

Honda knows how vital safety is when it comes to its vehicles, and the 2018 Honda Civic is no different. All of the Civic trims come standard with a rearview camera, and you have access to several driver-assistance features. These include lane-departure warning, forward collision warning, road-departure mitigation, and adaptive cruise control. You can also opt for Honda LaneWatch, which is a passenger-side blind-spot camera system.

For its dedication to safety, the Honda Civic sedan earned a five-star rating out of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This high rating resulted from the frontal, side, and rollover crash tests. In addition, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded it the highest rating, good, in six separate crash tests. This is better than many of the other vehicles in its class.

Fuel Economy

The Honda Civic sedan boasts an excellent gas mileage ratings for its class. Based on a standard manual transmission and the base engine, the sedan gets 28 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. The city mileage is comparable to the Corolla, but the Corolla only gets 36 mpg on the highway. The EPA estimates the Civic gets 36 mpg in combined driving.

If you upgrade to an automatic transmission with the Civic, the city mpg increases by three miles per gallon. In addition, if you opt for the 174-horsepower, turbocharged engine with an automatic transmission, expect to get 32 mpg in the city and 42 mpg on the highway.

Spacious Interior

Similar in design and interior quality to the Mazda 3, the Honda Civic sedan makes better use of the passenger space. The sedan, which seats five people comfortably, features a well-equipped cabin adorned with high-end materials. The front seats offer plenty of room for both the driver and passenger, even with the optional sunroof. The back row also has lots of legroom, and taller rear passengers should have enough space to ride comfortably.

This compact car doesn’t feel like one when it comes to the amount of space in its cargo area. The sedan offers 15.1 cubic feet of trunk space, which is larger than most of the others in its class. The lower liftover height also makes it easy for you to load and unload items. You can also hide personal items in numerous pockets and trays found throughout the interior.
