Places to Picnic in Houston, TX | Russell & Smith HondaWith summer in full gear, it’s time to get out of the house, spend some time outdoors, and share some great food with family and friends. Depending on how large your group is, you may want to consider hosting your picnic event at one of the Houston area’s many parks. There are lots of venues to choose from, so it really depends on your preference and how many people you’d like to invite. Here are four places to host a picnic in Houston.

Memorial Park

Memorial Park is a large Houston park that offers a lot of great amenities, making it perfect for large groups to host a picnic. It is one of the most popular summer destinations in the city, so you’ll need to make a reservation to host your event. There are a total of 21 picnic areas and rental rates start around $135 for up to 125 people and three hours of dedicated time at your chosen site. That’s normally more than enough for most groups to have a great time.

Discovery Green

Discovery Green has three spacious lawns to set up a blanket picnic and there are plenty of activities to enjoy while you’re there. This isn’t the kind of venue where you’re going to set up a grill, but it’s perfect for groups that want to bring a blanket and a basket of food to share with the rest of the group. When you’re done eating you can go canoeing, take a walk in one of the park’s groves, or just enjoy the company of your family and friends.

Hermann Park

Hermann Park offers a total of four covered picnic pavilions that are perfect for hosting large groups and allowing the party to continue, even if the weather decides not to cooperate. If you want to host an event there, you’ll be required to make a reservation with the local Parks and Recreation office. This is a popular spot, so make sure to make your reservations as early as possible or run the risk of somebody beating you to the punch.

Buffalo Bayou Park

If you’ve got a relatively small group, Buffalo Bayou Park may be more up your alley. They offer two picnic pavilions and it’s not entirely necessary to make a reservation to use one. However, if you don’t, you run the risk of others inadvertently joining your party. If you’re that friendly, then feel free to set up shop and start cooking. If not, you’ll want to go ahead and reserve a pavilion. It’s relatively inexpensive at $100 for the entire day and up to 30 people.

There you have it. You have no excuse to spend the entire summer indoors this year. Head to the market and grab something to throw on the grill. Get your family and friends together for the kind of summer picnic you remember having as a child. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to build new memories this summer with one of our new vehicles!
